How To Get the Most out of Comparison Shopping Sites
|
 |
BY KATHY JONES
-- Use a site that at least displays minimum shipping fees. Sites
that don't provide this information are not giving you
significant information that you need to comparison shop.
-- Look for clearly spelled-out privacy policies. What will the
site do with your information? Will it sell or give any personal
information out to merchants, or will it only use aggregate
information to provide data to businesses?
-- Use sites that have customer-service information on themselves
and the stores they list. It should be clear whom you can contact
if you have any problems buying or ordering your merchandise
-- Be aware of possible bias. A site may not tell you how it
ranks its merchants, or if the merchants pay for up-top listing.
If the site offers you the option to shuffle their rankings, rank
by price if you can.
-- Bear in mind that extensive sites may not have better prices
just because they list more stores in every category. Compare
these mega-sites with specialized sites. For instance, if buying
a Dylan album, look for sites that just list entertainment items,
such as Dealpilot.com, and compare their prices to the catch-all
sites.
