Now in his second term as
Missouri State Treasurer, Bob Holden has accomplished what no other chief
financial officer of the state has ever done: earned the state $1 billion
dollars in interest from investments. As State Treasurer, Holden is
responsible for managing the state's $17 billion in annual revenues, but his two
terms as State Treasurer are only his most recent accomplishments.
He began his career in public service in 1976, when
he served as an assistant to the State Treasurer. In 1983, Holden defeated
an incumbent and was elected to the Missouri House of Representatives from the
136th District (Springfield). He served three terms, from 1983 to
1989.
Born in Kansas City an August 24, 1949, Bob Holden grew up on
a farm in south central Missouri near Birch Tree. In 1973, he
graduated from Southwest Missouri State University with a degree in political science.
Bob Holden is married to Lori Hauser Holden, who
grew up in Aurora, Missouri. They have two sons, ten year old Robert III,
born in St. Louis; and five year old John D., born in Columbia. Holden is Dean
of the American Legion Missouri Boys State Legislative School; a board member of
Boys and Girls Town of Missouri; and served in the Missouri National Guard.
Bob's parents, Lee and Wanda Holden, live and farm
in Birch Tree, Missouri, Bob's boyhood home. Bob Holden serves as a member
of several boards and commissions including the Missouri Housing Development
Commission, the Missouri Higher Education Savings Program Board and the
Governor's Cash Management Task Force.
