Alan L. Keyes, commentator & former Ambassador

Former Reagan Administration official Alan L. Keyes lives in Maryland where he hosts a national syndicated radio talk show "The Alan Keyes Show: America's Wake Up Call."  He served as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Social and Economic Council and Assistant Secretary of State for International Organizations.  Though he has never won elective office, he has twice been the Republican Senatorial candidate in Maryland.

Son of an Army Sergeant and a sought-after conservative speaker, Ambassador Keyes divides his time between a number of causes.  He served as President of Citizens Against Government Waste, Interim President of Alabama A&M, and has just been elected President of the Ronald Reagan Alumni Association.  He's also founded National Taxpayer Action Day and the Declaration Foundation, which is dedicated to reminding Americans of the principals in the Declaration of Independence.

Dr. Keyes says "these Declaration Principles are the best hope for restoring America-indeed, preserving America. To toss them 'on the ash heap of history' will result in the end of our way of life as we know it and the end of liberty in America."

Known for his firebrand speeches like the one at the 1992 Republican Convention, Dr. Keyes has authored two books outlining his philosophy.  They are: Our Character, Our Future: Reclaiming America's Moral Destiny  and  Masters of the Dream: The Strength and Betrayal of Black America.

Ambassador Keyes explains why he deserves your support this way: "I truly believe that your support of Keyes 2000 will be critical to the destiny of America.  These days almost everyone acknowledges that America's most pressing problems are rooted in the decline of our national moral identity. Crime, rampant illegitimacy, the deteriorating educational environment in many of our schools, and especially the spectacle of national shame unfolding in the Clinton White House - all these can be traced to the lack of respect for moral principle in society.

"Yet when our current political leaders pretend to address these issues, most of them still run away from the fundamental moral dimension of the problems."

Alan Keyes is forty-nine years old and holds a Ph.D. in Government from Harvard University.  He and his wife Jocelyn have three children.
