The Army missed its recruiting target in three of the last five years. Studies have shown that potential recruits often see the armed forces as dehumanizing, and "An Army of One" emphasizes that individuals can achieve great things in the military.

"An Army of One" doesn't promote individual success any more than "Be all you can be," but the Army's slogan for the past 19 years made more sense. In fact, it was rated as the second-best ad slogan of all time. Its replacement isn't ready for action.
