The Bush administration intends to retain the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, even though it's a proven failure. The British military lifted its ban on gays last year and has experienced no problems in terms of morale, discipline or recruitment.

Recruitment is already too low; this would worsen the problem. The military is for protecting our security, not social engineering. We ask soldiers to risk their lives; asking them to keep sexual preferences private is certainly not a greater burden.
