Congress is considering passage of a bill that would maintain snowmobile use in Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks. Under the Clinton administration, the National Park Service had enacted a ban on snowmobile use in the parks.

The ban was originally enacted because excessive snowmobile use was placing excessive stress on wildlife due to air and noise pollution. Other park visitors and employees were also being placed at risk due to reckless and high-speed riders.
