| A Victorian parliamentary report says that public drunkenness should be decriminalised, and drunks should be taken to "sobering-up centres" or released into the care of a responsible person. Only as a last resort should they be detained in police cells. |
Decriminalisation would be unwise. The Drugs and Crime Prevention Committee's report also says drunken people should be detained until they sober up. Drunkenness is a criminal justice issue. The Government should not allow bad behaviour. |
