Drug-sniffing dogs can search for illicit drugs in lockers, cars and, as the dogs run up and down the aisles of a classroom, even individual students. This is an effective way to let the students know that the use of illegal drugs will not be tolerated.

These drug-sniffing dogs are ineffective, disruptive and most importantly, violate the Fourth Amendment's protection against unreasonable searches. Without probable cause, such a policy is arbitrary and unlawful and smacks of police-state tactics.
