President Bush has approved the use of a special military tribunal that could put terrorism suspects on trial faster, with greater secrecy and with greater security than an ordinary criminal court. Tribunals have been used during several previous wars.

Military courts don't guarantee defendants the same protections as regular courts. There is no civilian jury and no privilege against self-incrimination. The government will lose all credibility with the Muslim world if suspects are tried in such a forum.
