There are many allegations that children have been separated from their parents, that inappropriate force has been used against them, especially during disturbances, and that they have been harassed by adult detainees.
 

Immigration Minister Philip Ruddock said that many children were being sent alone and illegally to Australia to boost the chance of their family claiming refugee status under international conventions. The system should not be dismantled.
