| The four officers thought Diallo had a gun At 12:40 a.m. on Feb. 4, 1999, four NYPD officers were on patrol in the Bronx when they saw Amadou Diallo and thought he resembled a wanted serial rape suspect. According to the officers, Diallo refused to stop
for questioning. He then fled into the darkened vestibule of his apartment
building. Quickly, he reached for a dark object the officers believed to
be a gun. Only after the shooting ended did the officers realize Diallo
did not have a weapon, and instead was reaching for his
wallet. |
