Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott said: "This government is giving leadership on the environment internationally We are the only ones that have implemented a programme that will achieve the targets set out at Kyoto."
 

The government is not going as far as it should to protect the planet. Environment Minister Michael Meacher has told the Sunday Times that the government is not "ready to take the magnitude of the decisions I think are necessary."
