Polls Have Closed

YES
There hasn't been a raise in 13 years so the time has come to push one through
NO
The raises would cost taxpayers around $79,000. Citizens are being forced to make sacrifices due to the revenue shortfall and school officials should do the same

The Portland School Committee is considering whether to give some school officials a raise as high as 26 percent. There hasn't been an opportunity to give the workers a raise for years. Approving one now would secure the increase rate for years to come.

We'll send your vote to Portland School Superintendent Mary Jo O'Connor.

At a time when families are making every sacrifice possible to save money it's inappropriate to give school officials a 26-percent pay increase. Gov. King has had to cut school assistance to make up for an approximate $180 million state budget shortfall.
