American Airlines has announced that it will begin charging $100 for customers with nonrefundable tickets who want to fly stand-by. The move is necessary to reduce the enormous losses accrued since the Sept. 11th attacks.

The Business Travel Coalition feels the policy change has been introduced as a means to drive business travelers back into fully refundable tickets. There are many other airlines trying to expand their business-traveler market, so the move will backfire.
