Labour MP Graham Allen told BBC Radio 4: "Pulling Parliament back will allow the prime minister and other ministers, if they wish, to convince members of parliament and to convince members of the public that their way forward is the right way."

This is an unwise proposal. An unofficial meeting in Church House is unnecessary and would not be a substitute for an official meeting of Parliament. There is not expected to be any military action in Iraq before MPs return to the Commons on 15 October.
