Baseball's drug policy is the least strict in professional sports. Newsday recently reported that several Mets are marijuana users. That should be a wake-up call to league leaders. Their failure to toughen the policy could have dangerous consequences.

The Newsday report was based on anonymous sources, and may have been the result of an extortion attempt. It shouldn't be used as the basis for a change in policy. Baseball players are grownups; they don't need the league to act as a surrogate parent.
