Rep. Gephardt has introduced a bill to grant "earned legalization" to undocumented immigrants who have lived in the US at least five years, worked two years and can pass a background check. This would reward hard work and help to keep families together.

Gephardt knows that this bill can't be passed in the current session of Congress; he's introducing it to curry favor with Hispanic voters before Election Day. His proposal will do nothing but add to the five-million-case INS backlog of amnesty petitions.
