Oil exploration near Arches National Park has been stopped until a hearing is held to determine the environmental impact of the project. The region is home to many threatened or endangered species. It's important to make certain they're protected.

 		 In February 2001, the exploration was stopped by the Interior Department's Board of Land Appeals, but was allowed to move forward after the board voted 2-1 in favor of the project. This is another tactic to stall the environmentally friendly project.
