Whether by bullets or fire, the Davidians died by their own hands

Conspiracy theories about Waco refuse to die.  In an effort to find the truth, the government staged a reenactment of the compound's final hours, but their efforts served to turn up the volume on charges they fired on civilians inside the compound.

Nothing can change the stubborn opinions of those who want to exalt Koresh and criticize the feds.  They look at flashes on video of the siege and see gunfire, even when trained experts say the flashes were caused by sunlight and exhaust from tanks.

Koresh predicted he would die in a firestorm of biblical proportions.  Microphones inside the compound picked up chatter about starting a fire, and many Davidians appear to have died of self-inflicted gunshot wounds.

Of course, David Koresh is gone and we can't question him about his actions during the siege.  For instance, why were his followers talking about starting a fire?  Why didn't they run streaming out the exits?  Why didn't even one Davidian try to surrender - even if it meant risking a bullet - rather than accept the pain of burning to death?

There's no way to answer all the questions about Waco, but that doesn't mean every crackpot theory is legitimate.  It's wrong for fringe groups to turn criminals into heroes.  The American people should speak out against those would turn Koresh into a saint, and refute baseless claims that hard working members of law enforcement are cold-blooded killers.
